EMC

Ethylmethyl carbonate, a non-proton, polar, and environmentally friendly solvent, is a key cosolvent in the electrolyte mixture for nonaqueous lithium-ion batteries. It enhances the energy density and discharge capacity of lithium-ion batteries. It reacts with alcohols, phenols, amines, and esters which are very useful in the synthesis of organic intermediates (methylation reactions). EMC has been used as a solvent.
