Cyclohexylbenzene is an organic compound with the structural formula C12H16. With a high boiling point and a freezing point close to room temperature, it is an important solvent and finds application as a penetrant used in plastics, painting, and adhesives. It is also a versatile starting material for the preparation various intermediates such as cyclohexanone (an important building block for nylons) and 4-ethyl cyclohexyl benzoic acid (a widely used liquid crystal display material). Cyclohexylbenzene can also be used as an additive for lithium-ion battery electrolyte to enhance the battery safety.
