Betamethasone is an organic compound with the chemical formula C22H29FO5, mainly used as a steroid medication. It has a stronger glucose metabolism and anti-inflammatory effect than hydrocortisone, 15 times that of hydrocortisone, but its sodium retention effect is more than 100 times that of hydrocortisone. It can be used together with glucocorticoid for alternative treatment in primary adrenocortical insufficiency. It is also applicable to low renin low aldosterone syndrome and orthostatic hypotension caused by autonomic neuropathy.
