DMC

Dimethyl carbonate (DMC), produced by a green process, is a versatile, non-toxic, biodegradable reagent. The chemical reactivity of DMC is tunable and is an attractive alternative to both methyl halides (or dimethyl sulfate) and phosgene for methylation and carbonylation processes, respectively. In some cases, DMC shows unprecedented selectivity toward mono-C- and mono-N-methylation reactions. DMC can be mixed with almost all organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, and esters in any proportion, and is slightly soluble in water.
