Hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO or MM)

MM, a highly hydrophobic organosilicon reagent with the formula O[Si(CH₃)₃]₂, is commonly utilized as a source for plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE-CVD) of thin films of low-k dielectric silicon materials. It is also used as a substitute to silane in silicon integrated circuit technology. In addition, MM has been widely used in organosilicon and organic synthesis, such as in the production of silicone oil, silicone rubber, drugs, gas chromatography stationary liquids, among many other products. It is also used to crystallize highly lipophilic compounds and in liquid bandages (spray on plasters) such as cavilon spray. MM finds applications as end capping agent in silicone synthesis and as a cleaning agent by soften and remove adhesive residues.
